- Q: How do I make a reservation and what is your cancellation policy?A: You can book directly through this website, or book through a number of internet booking sites, including hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com. lf you need to cancel, we ask for as much notice as possible, but you must notify us no later than THREE days before the reserved date. Groups need to notify us no later than a week in advance.
- Q: When can I reach someone by telephone?A: Our front desk reception is open 24hrs a day to answer calls.
- Q: Do you have a curfew or lockout time?A: No, but we do enforce a quiet time from 11pm to 10am. During this time no loud talk in the public areas.
- Q: What are the sizes of the rooms and how are they set up, do you have private rooms?A: Some of the rooms are dormitory style and are either 4 or 5 person rooms. We also have single rooms, double/twin and triple rooms. We do allow groups traveling together to reserve a whole dormitory room, if one is available. Let us know what you want when you reserve and we will try to work with you. All rooms have an air-conditioner/heater, en-suite bathroom/shower with hot and cold water. Toilets are sit-down western style and toilet paper, towels and slippers are provided free. We do not provide soap, toothbrushes or shampoo, however, although these can easily be bought in the shops next-door.
- Q: Is there a maximum stay or weekly rates?A: There is no restriction on the length of stay, however, we do reserve the right to ask any guest to leave early if there is a problem with their staying at our hostel.
- Q: Do you have pillows, sheets, and blankets available? What if I want to use my sleeping bag?A: Yes, and there is no extra charge. You may bring/use your own sleeping bag(s). Linen and blankets are provided free.
- Q: Is there parking available? Can I bring a pet?A: Yes and off-road, no charge. We do not allow pets in the hostel.
- Q: What is the earliest I can arrive and what time is check-out?A: Guests can arrive in the morning any time and if their reserved bed or room is available then they can move in. Normal check out time is 12 noon so normal check in time will be after 12 noon.
- Q: What time is your bar/restaurant open for business?A: The bar and restaurant are open from 7am until 2am. However we stop taking food orders at 12:30am.
- Q: Can customers prepare their own food in the kitchen?A: We are sorry but owing to space restrictions, we cannot let customers cook their own food in our kitchen.
- Q: Can customers bring their own food or drink into the bar/restaurant?A: We are sorry buy our policy is not to allow customers to do this, although of course they may take into their room.
- Q: What is the hostels policy on smoking?A: There is no smoking allowed in the bar from 7:00am to 12:00 noon. There is no smoking in the public areas (reception, internet area etc).
No illegal drug use is tolerated in the hostel, fully according to Chinese law. - Q: Where is the nearest Post Office?A: If you visit our maps page on the Happy Dragon website, you can see that it is directly opposite the Dongsi subway exit B.
- Q: Where can I get money from an ATM?A: Leaving the hostel, take the first corner right to the end of the street, then turn right again to see the cash-point.
- Q: Where is the nearest Bank of China?A: The nearest Bank of China is at the northern end of Wangfujing pedestrian shopping street.
- Q: Where is the nearest Western Union office?A: There is one inside the Post Office opposite Dongsi subway exit B.
- Q: Where is the bar street?A: Sanlitun has the largest number of bars and clubs, and there are also the large nightclubs Vick’s and The Mix at the Workers Stadium Gate. Our reception can write directions for you to pass to a taxi driver, the fee to Sanlitun is around 15-20rmb, Workers Stadium between 15-20rmb.
- Q: When are the banks open until?A: Most branches are open until 5pm.
- Q: Do you have wheelchair access?A: Sorry but owing to the location and construction of our hostel, it is not convenient for wheelchair access.
- Q: Do all the rooms have air-conditioners/heaters?A: Yes, all the rooms have air-conditioners/heaters.
- Q: Do all the rooms have ensuite bathroom?A: Yes, all the rooms and dorms have an ensuite bathroom.
- Q: Can I drink the tap water?A: No. Bottled water is easily bought and cheap.
- Q: Can I buy gifts from the hostel?A: We sell maps, postcards, Chinese opera masks, traditional Chinese paintings by Tom Zhang (see the forum’s page for all about Tom)
- Q: Can I arrive later than 11PM (2300h)?A: Yes, our reception is open 24hrs.
- Q: Do you allow tenting on the property?A: Sorry but we do not have any camping facilities although you may place your equipment in our luggage/storage room.
- Q: How far are you from the airport and downtown? How can I get to the hostel from the airport or the train stationA: We are about 25km from the airport. From the airport a taxi will cost around 100 RMB (you can print out the above map to show the driver or call our reception for directions). Alternatively you can take the Airport shuttle train to Dongzhimen subway, then take the subway Line 2 to Yong He Gong, then change to line 5 and get out at Dong Si stop. This will cost approximately 27 RMB.

BEIJING STATION – From the Beijing main station you can take the subway to Chongwenmen and then change to Line 5 and travel to the Dong Si stop (tickets are 2rmb).
WEST TRAIN STATION – From Beijing West station it is easiest to take a taxi for about 30 RMB (you can print out the above map to show the driver or call our reception for directions). A new subway line will open soon, which will allow you to reach the hostel by subway. - Q: If necessary, can I change room/dorm bed?A: If available, yes, at no extra charge.
- Q: Are there places to eat nearby? How about a place to buy groceries?A: There are several places to eat within walking distance from the hostel, offering both sit-down style and fast food. The is a large Wumart supermarket within 5 minutes walk selling both native and western goods (food, toiletries, clothes etc), and a large underground shopping complex selling many fashionable clothes in boutiques, as well as a 24hr local restaurant, and a McDonalds. Street snacks/breakfast etc. are also available outside, particularly at the local morning market which is a minute away in the local plaza.
- Q: Is there storage available?A: Yes. We have inside lockers that you can use. These lockers are for use by current guests only and are free. We have a general storage/luggage room where you can keep bags etc if you check in early or need to wait for a flight etc. after check-out. This is free too while you are staying. We can also keep money or important small items or documents locked up for free, just ask at reception. If you forget or leave items behind it may be possible for us to mail them on to you but you will have to pay the postage. While rare, if thefts in the hostel do occur, neither Happy Dragon Hostel nor staff will be responsible for items lost or stolen. Please protect your belongings. Any guest caught stealing items from either other guests or Happy Dragon Hostel will have to leave immediately and may face prosecution.
